Mt Bierstadt was my first 14er! I’m proud to join the club of “people who have climbed at least one 14er.” Located 30 minutes from Georgetown, this is a very popular first-14er for would-be mountain climbers, and for good reason.

This hike is tough but doable, and absolutely worth it to stick it out. Take it slow, drink lots of water, and make sure to take plenty of rest breaks. Blame it on the wildfire haze, but even my native lungs were struggling to catch my breath at times.

We departed from home at 3:30 am and arrived at the trailhead by 6, we got there just in time to see two moose eating their breakfast. Prepare to see A LOT of wildlife on this hike.

The first leg of the hike is a mile or so on a very skinny boardwalk over the wetlands. After the boardwalks, then the hard part begins.

Of course, you need to cross the river to officially start. Bring another pair of socks in case you lose your footing.

The Marmots here are very friendly. Expect these little guys to get close, but they won’t bother you.

The view from 1/3 of the way up!

We took so long getting to the top, this Pika had already beat us to lunch.

Five hours later, we submitted at noon. The view, and the bragging rights, were worth the slow struggle to the top.

We did that.
